Grassroots Advocacy Fellow
Monique Stamps is a grassroots advocate whose work is driven by a passion for disability rights, health equity, and inclusive community engagement. Monique is particularly dedicated to working with public agency staff to advance systems change that improves access, independence, and quality of life for people with disabilities. She is highly skilled in public policy, community outreach, community engagement, and program development.
In addition to supporting clients in strategic planning and outreach initiatives, Monique has deep experience in working with independent living programs, health care accessibility, and intersectional advocacy for women and families with disabilities.
Prior to joining HSRI, Monique was the public policy and outreach coordinator for the North Carolina Statewide Independent Living Council, where her work addressed statewide policy priorities and cross-agency collaboration to strengthen disability services. She still works with NCSILC part-time. In addition to that, she serves as the founder and director of Women Embracing Abilities Now (W.E.A.N.) Charlotte, leading programs related to peer support, leadership development, and health advocacy.
When not at work, Monique enjoys being a makeup artist, storytelling, mentoring emerging advocates, and producing her podcast, CODE Collective (Colors of Disability Equality), a platform highlighting disability representation and culture.
