Opportunity

HSRI submitted a proposal in response to the RFP to conduct a comprehensive behavioral health system needs assessment for Forsyth County. The opportunity centers on understanding the current landscape of mental health, substance use, and intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) services; identifying gaps between available resources and community needs; and establishing a clear foundation for strategic investment and system improvement.

Approach

HSRI will apply its established approach to comprehensive behavioral health system assessment, guided by the Framework for an Ideal Behavioral Health System—a resource developed by HSRI and partners that defines core values, expectations, and best practices for an effective system. Grounded in community-engaged research principles, the assessment will integrate qualitative and quantitative data to examine community strengths, assets, gaps, and unmet needs. Findings will be informed by community input and compared against national best practices and model systems to evaluate the current service landscape and define a desired future state.

Impact

The assessment will provide a comprehensive, actionable roadmap for Forsyth County Behavioral Health Services and its partners. By documenting existing resources, identifying critical gaps, and prioritizing funding strategies, the project will support the development of a more accessible, comprehensive, efficient, and equitable behavioral health system that better meets the needs of Forsyth County residents.
