Jamekia Collins

Research Assistant

Jamekia is a research assistant driven by a passion for applying her skills to helping underserved communities and improving resources for minority groups. She is particularly dedicated to working with public agency staff to integrate an intersectional approach to her projects. In addition to supporting the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities team, Jamekia has extensive experience in nonprofit organizations, providing public outreach and advocacy to understanding and meeting needs of diverse communities.

Prior to joining HSRI, Jamekia was a graduate research assistant at Georgia Southern University. Her cross-disciplinary research addressed racial equity in higher education and the livelihoods and wellbeing of commercial fishermen on the Georgia Coast. In addition to this work, Jamekia served in a research capacity for projects exploring barriers to health access among low- to middle-income communities in Georgia.

Outside the office, Jamekia enjoys reading, trying new foods, and exercising. 

Education

  • Master of Arts in Social Science from Georgia Southern University
  • Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice from Georgia Southern University
