Community of Practice for Supporting Families of Individuals with IDD
In 2012, the UMKC Institute on Human Development and the National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services launched a National Community of Practice (CoP) for Supporting Families of Individuals with IDD to help build capacity to create policies, practices and systems to assist and support families that include a member with IDD. We’ve been working for over a decade with numerous state and Canadian provinces to reimagine the way they provide supports to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Personal Supports Budgets—individually tailored, needs-based service budgets—are key to these efforts; using this framework, policymakers can apply limited funds more effectively and efficiently while also promoting self-direction in community supports and services. Evaluation of Self-Directed Supports
We evaluated the implementation of the Real Lives legislation and self-direction services by the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services. Real Lives was enacted in 2014 to expand self-direction of supports and services by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Read More
National Measures of Quality in HCBS
HCBS help many people with disabilities live independently in their homes and other integrated community settings. Working with our Core Indicators partners and funded by the Administration for Community Living, we’re developing a standardized set of measures to examine the quality of these services nationwide, across payers and delivery systems—with a particular focus on person-centered approaches.
