Valerie Bradley Presents at the Data Science and Right to Science Conference in Dubrovnik, Croatia

From May 18-21, HSRI's Valerie Bradley participated in a conference and symposium in Dubrovnik, Croatia on the right to science as a human right. Valerie's presentation highlighted the importance of technology in the lives of people with disabilities in supporting them to be active participants in their community, in jobs, and in relationships. She also shared recommendations regarding the involvement of people with disabilities in the design of technology that they rely on.

In recent years, growing numbers of transition age youth with I/DD and mental illness have become incarcerated in county and city jails. On May 15, HSRI's Valerie Bradley spoke at a Hill briefing highlighting the needs of transition age youth as part of Mental Health Awareness Month.
Valerie joined a group of colleagues in Washington, D.C. to present an informational session on people I/DD and mental health diagnoses to Congressional members and staff. Presenters included a parent, a Massachusetts sheriff, a researcher and behavior support professionals.

Applications for the University of Delaware's National Leadership Institute on Developmental Disabilities, to be held this summer (July 21-26) will be accepted through June 14, 2019.
This week-long, intensive leadership development program is designed for current executive-level leaders and emerging leaders. Participants may work in areas of management or program leadership in organizations that provide, advocate for, or fund supports for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families.

In their latest Data Brief, the National Core Indicators team highlights this variation and examines outcomes for people under guardianship. They also present some initial steps for considering guardianship reform and expanding alternatives like supported decision-making.
