NCI Data Brief: Characteristics and Outcomes of Older Adults With IDD

Date: 03/2020

Examining National Core Indicators data from 2017-2018, NCI researchers explored characteristics and outcomes for older adults (age 55+) with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The latest NCI Data Brief summarizes the results and describes how they can be used to help plan and provide supports for older adults with IDD.

Among the findings, respondents who were over 55 were:

  • More likely to have a problem finding transportation to do things for fun
  • More likely to have mood and anxiety disorders
  • More likely to live in a group setting and to have spent time in a state hospital
  • Less likely to have friends
  • Less likely to be involved in the community
