In the News: HSRI's Study of Emergency Psychiatric Services for Milwaukee County

Date: 01/2018

On the front page of Sunday’s paper, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel highlighted a study we’re conducting, along with our partners the Wisconsin Policy Forum and the Technical Assistance Collaborative, to determine how best to provide emergency mental health services in Milwaukee County. The study comes at a time when the county’s Behavioral Health Division needs to redesign its continuum of crisis services as it prepares to shut down the county psychiatric emergency room that is attached to the county psychiatric hospital.

According to HSRI President David Hughes,“This time of transition has brought the need to redesign the behavioral health system to the forefront, and county stakeholders are pulling together to support and participate in the study and devise solutions for this unique opportunity to rethink the best way to deliver care in Milwaukee County.”
