    Under contract to the Illinois Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities, HSRI is partnering with self-advocates to develop a consensus based plan that will identify a vision for self-advocacy and a framework for action reflective of issues important to people with developmental disabilities throughout Illinois.

  • Florida Health and Wellness

    Florida Health and Wellness
    (2009-2010)

    HSRI is working with the Palm Beach Habilitation Center, located in Lake Worth Florida, and the Florida Association for Rehabilitation Facilities to improve health and wellness behaviors or individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Activities emphasize personal control, peer support, health education and building community capacity as four primary health promotion strategies to facilitate increased physical activity and healthy eating among people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The project includes local service providers, businesses, and community organizations in a Learning Community to provide increased access to health and wellness activities to this population.

  • National Youth Leadership Network Reap What You Sow

    National Youth Leadership Network Reap What You Sow
    (2009-2010)

    Through a subcontract from the National Youth Leadership Network (NYLN), HSRI provided collaborative support to implement a grant funded by the US Administration on Developmental Disabilities. The purpose of the grant was to build an alliance between individuals with disabilities and their family members to guide changes in family support policy and practice from the perspective of youth and young adults with disabilities. The project resulted in the Reap What You Sow: Harvesting Services and Supports Curriculum for national distribution and a related conference to train people how to use the curriculum in their communities. Young people and adults with disabilities, family members, friends, teachers, community support providers, and others were invited to attend. Primary curriculum topics include power, engaging youth and family members in their communities, and systems of society.

    Development of Quality Management Tools for Massachusetts Autism Waiver
    (2007-2008)

    HSRI worked closely with the Massachusetts Department of Mental Retardation to develop a tool that to evaluate the experience of families with the state’s autism waiver.
