Wisconsin Self-Determination Project

The purpose of this project is to teach individuals with intellectual disabilities about the new self-determination support systems and how to best use them to achieve their personal goals.

The project focuses on helping self-advocates to achieve the following four outcomes:

  1. Decide where and with whom they live;
  2. Decide how they spend their day;
  3. Become involved in their community;
  4. Make decisions regarding their supports and services such as Family Care-SDS or IRIS.

We are also developing a self-determination board game and other written materials to help self-advocates learn (a) to identify their dreams and goals and what they have to give to others in their community; (b) to develop their own personal plan; (c) the key aspects of the Family Care-SDS and IRIS systems; and (d) how to choose the support option that best suits their needs
