A Strategic Path Forward: Responding to the Needs of People with Developmental Disabilities in Florida
This initiative was a collaborative effort with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, families and individuals with developmental disabilities, developmental disabilities organizations and other stakeholders to develop a strategic plan for a system of supports so that individuals with developmental disabilities can live self-directed lives in the community. HSRI facilitated this collaborative discussion, prepared the strategic plan, provided the data and analysis to support the elements of the strategic plan, provided supplemental documents that will facilitate discussions of the plan, and assisted in the presentation of the strategic plan to the legislature and the broader developmental disabilities community. The vision that will be used to guide this strategic plan was: "People with developmental disabilities live self-directed lives in the community."
Two reports were developed for this initiative. First, was a Planning Context, which reviewed the current status in the Florida related to three key benchmarks. Second were was a review of Action Steps the state should consider in implementing change.
