Mental Health System Planning by the Numbers
Using a clinically based computer implemented model, HSRI developed a dynamic approach for estimating mental health system needs and resources. This approach is based on a simulation that, over time, can estimate changes to consumer outcomes in functioning as services are delivered, and the resource capacity needed to generate and respond to such outcomes. The HSRI model has been used in numerous mental health service agencies across the country. The model produces population results of individuals distributed across a functional level scale, human resources and service capacity resources required to deliver a package of services, and estimated staffing need based on desired service prescription. It also has the capacity to generate hospital census (i.e. beds) and other resources.
