Quality Assessment Services: Implementing Surveys of People with Developmental Disabilities and Family Members in California
The California Department of Developmental Disabilities Services, as a result of changes in state statute, has become a participating state in National Core Indicators. In addition to the 400 randomly selected consumers statewide, the state will also support the collection of 400 consumer surveys at each of the 21 regional centers. In order to facilitate this process, DDS has contracted with HSRI to help manage the implementation of the survey process. The initiation includes the creation of a sampling plan for the state and regional centers as well as for individuals - "movers" - coming out of state developmental centers. HSRI has also developed a web-based survey management tool for the surveyors as well as a web platform for data entry. HSRI has completed to preparation of training materials and video and has conducted 6 onsite trainings. Going forward, HSRI will generate reports for the state and regional centers and will work with regional centers to develop quality improvement processes based on the data generated by the reports. Our collaborators in this process include the National Association of State Directors of Developmental Disabilities Services, Allen and Shea and Temple University. This is a 2 and 1/2 year effort.
