About Us...
The Riot! is a newsletter for "self-advocates." A self-advocate is somebody who has a disability and speaks up for themselves.
Are you a self-advocate? If you are, then The Riot! is for YOU!
We hope that other people, like parents, staff and policy makers will enjoy it too.
But these pages are written mostly for our main audience… self-advocates!
Here’s what we promise to do… We will:
- Make you smile. We’re not happy unless we make you laugh at least once.
- Give you good information. Self-advocates want to live in the community and be the boss of their life.
We’ll write articles that promote these ideas.
- Help make self-advocacy strong. Self-advocates are speaking up all over the country.
We’ll give you opportunities to make your voice heard.
The Riot! is housed at The Human Services Research Institute. Staff at HSRI partner with self-advocates from around the country
to bring The Riot! to you. Self-advocates participate in planning out the issues, writing articles, and editing each issue.
The Riot! is made available four times each year… in July, October, January and April. It’s FREE!!
To find out when a new Riot! is ready, you have to be on our e-mail list. Once you are on the list, we
will send you an email to let you know whenever a new Riot! is ready. Then, you can come back to this website to take a look. Remember...
after you download The Riot! you can make copies and share it with friends, family or staff.
