SALN has worked with the Texas Advocates to train its board members and a core group of 15 self-advocates from around the state to participate in Leadership Academies for the past 2 ½ years. At these Leadership Academies, SALN has provided intensive training to teach self-advocates about self-determination and self-advocacy using My Voice, My Choice and the toolkit, Planning and Giving a Presentation. As a result, group members gave a presentation about self-determination to a group of state-level decision makers and to self-advocates at a state-wide conference for self-advocacy.

The Texas Advocates have used the toolkit, How Your Organization Can Sponsor Self-Advocates as AmeriCorp*VISTA Members, to get funding for self-advocates as volunteers for their organization. SALN has also assisted the group in personal and group goal-setting activities.
